A cowhide rug can be used in so many different ways when your are decorating.  We recently had an owner who loved Brazilian cowhide rugs and cut one in half to use as window seat covers on two window seats built at ninety degrees to each other.  It looked fabulous and the owners loved it. 

Zebra cowhide rugs have become very popular and will work with so many different decors.  You can use them in modern, contemporary, rustic, cabin, southwestern and western decor.  They are so rich and look fabulous with an all black and white room or a very colorful room.  We have seen them used in an entry in a very contemporary home.

If you are on a real low budget and need to find a cheap cowhide rug, there are some great faux cowhide rugs.  Cymax.com has a 39 inch by 55 inch hypoallergenic faux fur and highly durable, black and white one for $84 retail which at the time of this writing is on sale for $66.95.  Rosenberry Rooms.com has a circular faux fur black and white rug, 5 feet in diameter for $100.  It would be great for a child's room.

Ikea now carries cowhide rugs, which we feel illustrates their popularity, for $249.  They range in size from 34 square feet to 48 square feet.  There are several different colors available at this seller.  

Cowhides International.com offers three types of naturally light colored, solid cowhides.  The white cowhides, which are technically off-white since cows are not white; creamy white cowhides which have just enough color to look different from the white hides when compared side by side and the light palomino cowhides, which are a very light tan or beige color.  White hides are more rare and more expensive but at this site they seem to be pretty reasonable starting at about $459. They also have Brazilian calf hides stenciled to look like leopard and tiger which are absolutely gorgeous and start at $95.  Their selection of cowhide pillows is the largest and most competitively priced we have found thus far.

A cowhide patchwork rug is extremely elegant. Southern Hides.com has a wonderful varied dark brown and light brown one in several sizes from just under 4 feet by 2 feet up to just under 10 feet by 10 feet which is priced from $275 to $1850.  You must see the richness of this rug to believe it. This seller also has cowhide handbags, cushion covers, butterfly chairs, stools and ottomans.  A great site to visit and look at pictures.
