Kokopelli is generally known as a fertility deity. My sons say he is smoking the same stuff young people smoke today but I believe he is shown playing a flute. In our opinion, he is one of the most charming little characters around today - and to think he has been around since maybe 750 AD is intriguing. He must hold some type of magical charm to have kept his popularity all these years. It is said that Kokopelli, like other fertility deities, over both childbirth and agriculture but he is also known as a trickster god and represents the spirit of music. Petroglyphs showing him with his flute can be found in the Galisteo Basin in New Mexico, on BLM land near Embudo, New Mexico, This classic Kokopelli and dancer image is believed to have patterned after a Hohokam pottery sherd, circa AD 1000, found near Phoenix, AZ This petroglyph picture which is found in eastern Utah and is attributed to the Anasazi culture is the one we had etched into a wall by a local artist - see below. We think he is adorable and it just makes us feel good when we see him in any form. And we have used him in many forms, including stained glass and metal and we had him etched into a venetian plaster wall in a very southwest bathroom we remodeled. We have used two 6 inch figures we found of him riding bicycles - one doing a wheely and one going over the handlebars. They are each mounted in a piece of a very red piece of Arizona looking rock. Get creative - he is so very popular in southwest decorating you can find him doing anything that interests you. If you want to use him as wall art there is a very lyrical musicians set at Touch of Class. There are two different ones and you can buy them as a set or individually. One is playing a horn and one the flute and they are 22 - 24 inches tall. They are made of resin and seller says you can use them indoors or outdoors. We have used one very similar to these on the exterior of a house - but the one we used is actually holding a golf club. The home is on the golf course so it is perfect and he has been there for three years and still looks like new. You can find Kokopelli on pillows, pottery, furniture, lamps, lamp shades, blankets, tile wall sconces, baskets, bedspreads, sheets and even sofas. At Ibis Art.com you can get a fabulous Kokopelli wall clock. Figure out where you need him and find one which works for you. Just had to include three examples of him we think are adorable Metal wall art about 10"x20" Stained glass about 15"x30" Etching about 22"x15"
