Pine furniture is some of the most popular furniture today. It is very prevalent in southwest decor and is a rather inexpensive way to decorate. Cheap pine furniture seems to be everywhere. It gained huge popularity in the 1950's and 1960's and like everything seems to be cycling back into popularity just as the old hair styles and clothing styles have done. You can now find pine living room furniture, unfinished pine furniture, pine office furniture and of course antique pine furniture. Bet our parents and grandparents wish they had kept theirs. For how to turn any pine table into your own custom southwest pine coffee table or dining room table visit and learn. You can not go wrong with this furniture- it is easy to care for, easy to move, easy to use for home projects and the prices can be unbelievable. We own some pine bedroom furniture and we are very happy with it. Some we have purchased new and several pieces we have acquired used. It is lightweight - both in actual weight and in style. The simple lines often used lends itself to what we like to see in furniture. Take a simple piece and work it over, as we say. Take a round end table and apply saguaro to the sides with your staple gun. Put mosaic tile on the top - in a sun design (we always choose the sun design because you don't have to be an artist to make a cool sun). Distressed furniture is so popular today - and how convenient since children and grandchildren distress it for you for free. We had to laugh when we put rocks and nuts and bolts in a big white sock and then beat up our cabinet doors with it. Should have had the grandkids do it. Seriously, distressing is a fabulous way to treat furniture to get the southwest decor look. When you stain distressed wood the deep marks soak up more stain and the look is so warm and rustic. Pine is also so easy to stain with the Minwax colored stains available in 74 colors. Our favorite piece is one which is mostly a light green with five small drawer fronts done in 5 different colors - blue, orange, red, darker green and yellow. It now looks like an antique piece of Mexican pine furniture and it is just a small pine hutch which came with a house we purchased. ![]()
Custom Search Another thing we like to do with this softer furniture to compliment the southwester decor is to add copper strips to it. For under $35 you can buy copper flashing at a hardware store and apply it to furniture for a great look. Clavos are also easy to add and are available at many stores both locally and online. Find a picture of a piece of furniture in a southwest magazine which you would just about die for, and then buy a used piece from craigslist, a thrift store or garage sale which would work in the space you need to fill - and get to work making that unique piece for your home.
