A plate rack has many uses and means different things to different people - to us it means this:                          among other things.  The plate rack shown here placed between two full size cabinets with a shorter cabinet above it, is a wonderful luxury item and a fabulous way to display come color in your kitchen.     This is a custom plate rack for the over-sized plates.

For those of you who want a kitchen plate rack in your current kitchen without doing a cabinet remodel there is this portable wooden plate rack you can sit on a counter or mount on a wall.  The counter model shown here is available at Stacks and Stacks.com for $78.99 - very inexpensive compared to a new cabinet.  It is 14.25 inches high by 20 inches wide by 9.5 inches deep.  As you can see in the picture, items may be placed on the top narrow shelf.  Made of solid wood construction it is available with a natural finish or for $1 more in a white finish.  It holds up to a dozen plates and there is only one review but it is a 5 star review.  Measure some of your empty spaces on you counter tops and see if this is the item for you.

Plow & Hearth.com has a pine plate rack which also sits on the counter.  The shape of it is takes up less counter space since the top provides more space then the above rack.  It is available in six other finishes so certainly there will be one for your decor.  The measurements are 16.75 inches high by 21.5 inches wide by 9.75 inches deep - which is how wide the top shelf appears to be.  Made of solid pine and holding up to a dozen plates it retails for $189.95.

This "build it yourself" wall mounted plate rack holds up to 24 plates.  The directions for this project are available at Better Homes and Gardens.  Looks very simple and fun.  Adds additional storage to your kitchen or dining area and decorated your wall at the same time.

If you are lucky enough to have a butler pantry we think this is the ideal wall plate rack for a sidewall.   Some kitchens are large enough to handle this but it is pretty utilitarian to use as a display item.  Available at The Wow Factor.uk.com for 200 pounds or about $350 for the unpainted natural pine model.  There are nine other wood choices available and there is an additional charge for each one.  Measurements are given in millimeters - but in inches it is about 28 inches high by 24.75 inches wide by just under 9.75 inches deep.  This site has a large selection - check them out.
