According to Wikipedia: "Talavera is a type of majolica earthenware, distinguished by its white base glaze. Authentic Talavera pottery only comes from the city of Puebla and the communities of Atlixco, Cholula and Tecali, as the clays needed and the history of this craft are both centered there. All pieces are hand-thrown on a potter's wheel and the glazes contain tin and lead, as they have since colonial times." One of our favorite things when we travel to Mexico is the use of Talavera everywhere. Sinks, counters, sconces, entire walls and fronts of stairs often have the bright colored Talavera. Using it in your home can make you feel like you are on vacation! A guest room done in Talavera would be extremely fun for your guests. The first sconce we want to show you is here is a gorgeous typical Talavera style sconce and is available at Direct From Mexico.com. $52.76 wired or unwired - add $15 for wiring - it is 8.5" x 11" x 5" and holds a 60 watt to 120 watt. This bell shaped wall sconce is from the same site and it is the same price. It is 10" x 9.5" and has a larger selection of colors in it. This sconce is fabulous with the Talavera oval vessel sink from Mexican Connexion For Sinks.com. The sink retails at $215 but at the time of this writing is on sale for under $120. A great start to a fabulous bathroom at under $400 for 2 sinks and 2 wall sconces. There are under counter mount and drop in sinks available at Copper Sinks.com. If you want to keep your budget even lower, skip the sinks and just use some of the tile for your backsplash. The few patterns shown here are available at Tierra y Fuego.com. There are so many fabulous patterns to choose from you will have a hard time deciding what you want.
Custom Search Talavera and More.com also has several Uriarte wall sconces. They are all $169. Casa Mexicana Imports out of the state of Washington had what they call Sconce / Planters. They retail for $35.99 and have several gorgeous patterns available. We cannot determine if they come prewired or not but you can contact them - especially if they are close to you. You will also find talavera lamps, soap dishes, toothbrush holders, kleenex boxes, candle holders, wash stands, condiment dishes, talavera fountains, plates, vases, pitchers and many other decorative items are available in this gorgeous Mexican style pottery.
