We love decorating with wall sconces.  Learning how to place them so you highlight them or just accent with them gives you a lot of options for each different area in your home.

They are both a point of interest wall decor item and they provide lighting at the same time.  Use them in hallways, entries, bathrooms, bedrooms and in any areas of your living space where you might need some extra light.   According to Wikipedia, sconce height in a passage way is usually three quarters of the distance up the wall from floor to ceiling.  Everyone does agree the sconce should be high enough the interior bulb cannot be seen. You can hang them side by side, space on each side of some other wall decor item, one above the other, across from each other in a hallway or stairwell and on each side of a mirror in an entry or bathroom.  Find a space you need to fill and consider all your options.

Wall sconces are great for complimentary fill lighting so use them wherever you want or need them.  Some decorators use them placed on each side of a small painting to make the overall display the right size for a large wall.  A stairwell is an excellent place for sconces and it is a simple but useful way to decorate an area that is often overlooked by homeowners and can usually use some extra lighting.  One placed on each side of a mirror in a guest bath would allow for an excellent use of any of the Kokopelli sconces below.

Wiring for sconces can easily be added to any wall with light switches or plug ins already in existence on the wall.  If you do not have existing lighting in a stairwell, it will be a little more work.  Contact an electrician in most cases, but we have done some of our own.

The southwest style sconces available are unbelievable.  Choose from ceramic, terra cotta or different types of metal.  You can find a sconce in an aged tin and tile combination, aged tin and marble combination, parchment paper and metal, copper and mica, glass and metal and many more.  There are many designs in painted clay, copper, punched tin and on and on.

Since we are so fond of this fertility deity we will focus on  Kokopelli wall sconce lighting here.  We found them at:  Strictly Southwestern for $79 which are for indoor use and take a maximum of 75 watt light bulb;  Kokopellis Treasures; Acacia Artisans; Sunland Home Decor and Tres Amigos World Imports, just to mention a few.

A Kokopelli walll sconce will be a huge conversation piece in your home - try it and see.
